1. There is a lack of dental hygiene job opportunities. No wonder the home based business industry is becoming so appealing. I know of at least two Hygienist that where thrown into the unemployed status because their dentist retired and the new dentist choose not to hire them. These were hygienist that were loyal to the practice to that dental practice for over 15 years. I can only imagine how they feel. The dental hygiene job opportunity is getting scarce and hygienists are very nervous about this fact. There is an abundance of dental hygienist and benefit cutbacks are soaring. Many hygienists are unable to find work. This is very disappointing to newly graduate hygienist, recently unemployed hygienist and hygienist looking to increase work hours.
2. Burnt Out: Dental hygiene is a rewarding career but some hygienist find the work repetition and exhausting after a while. Physical Challenges: Carpal tunnel and back pain, seem to be the most common culprits that affect the livelihood of dental hygienist. Some hygienist are forced to work less hours in order to cope with the situation or worst yet have to leave the profession altogether and find a new work that isn’t as physically challenging.
3. They want the time and finances so they can stay home and nurture their growing kids. Mothers long to create special memories with their children. Fact is, a 9-5 job can really put a plug in that dream. I know, I had to work 5-6 days a week while my kids were young. Most of the time because I was a single Mom holding down the fort. Problem was I wasn’t physically present with my kids as much as they or I wanted. Before I knew it they were adults. I regret not being able to create those special moments due to the fact I did not have the time to spend with them…
