How to Love Hearing the Word “No” as a Network Marketer

Just finished reading the book “Go for No” by Richard Fenton and Andrea Waltz. It was very enlightening and now I have a new appreciation for the word “No”.

It is a dreaded word to hear as a network marketer. Part of growing our business is to be able to present, recruit and close prospects.

In the past I used extreme cautious and seldom took the actions that I knew were essential to building my home-based business and helping others. Such actions included making phone calls to cold prospects as well as warm prospect. The reason was because I lacked self-confidence. Fear was a big factor. I did not want to be told “no, I don’t want to join your business”, “I am not interested in your products” or worse yet “that sounds like a scam to me”. Have you ever had a prospect hang the phone up on you? Those responses caused me to put a hedge of protection around my emotions and I allowed it to hinder my ability to attain the success I sought. Feeling rejection was not something I chose to embrace, not for one moment.

I took a poll on Facebook to see what the majority of the people thought and hands down when I asked if the word no or yes was more empowering they replied  “YES” with excitement. Before I read the Book “Go for NO” I thought so too.

Since then, what I found was that hearing the word “No” is actually something I should desire. Not only to desire, but to make it my goal.

nosYou have heard that the fortune is in the follow up. Here is the explanation for it.. Did you know that 42% of people will say “no” to your offer the first time, 22% will say “no” the 2nd time, 14% will say “no” a third time, 12% will say “no” a 4th time. Statistically 60% of the people will say “no” four times before they say “yes”.

So how do we internalize this information to make it a winning situation for us as network marketers? First of all we need to adjust our attitude in a way that will cause us to seek the “No’s “ with expectation and joy. It is a numbers game and we have to play the game as swiftly as possible for best result. So I made up my mind that I am going to joyfully go for the “No’s’” because the “Yes’s” will surely come as long as I push thru the no’s. The more “No’s “ I can get, the more prosperous I will be and the more people I can help.

It is much easier making it your goal to get the “no’s” since they will be plentiful. As you get them you will feel empowered and accomplished because you will be achieving this goal more successfully than making the word yes your goal.

In conclusion remember that hearing the word “Yes” is our destination but we must hear the word “No” in our route to getting there. So concentrate on how many “no’s” you can get. Get them as fast and as many as you can. Refrain from putting any meaning to the word “no” other than it meaning perhaps another time. The book suggest that we reward ourselves for reaching our goal of hearing the word “no”. Don’t forget to follow up with the people that once or more times rejected your offer because maybe this time they will say yes. As a byproduct of many “no’s” the Yes’s will magically arise.

Allow yourself to hear the word “NO”, let it  flood your ears and spark the fuel for success.
